Look at the boot option, look like the system cannot find your HD. I think you did not set your HD correctly.

That's what I think too.
On the setup utility, there are Main, Security, System Configuration, Diagnostics and Exit tags. It's missing Advance tag isn't it? Why this doesn't offer this option? Is there a way to have it display? I had reset the MB to its default -factory reset by removed battery and hold the power down for more than 5 seconds. Any other suggestion? Thanks robocop.

No, HP laptop BIOS doesnot has Advance menu. Can you run the Diagnostic on the HD? If you can, that's mean it saw the HD and your HD might be corrupted. If the build-in diagnostic can't fix the HD, then take the HD to another machine and use it as USB HD. Use Windows to run Check disk on it CHKDSK /r. That should fix it.

Hi GioLanh,
I don't think HD was the problem in this case. I bought another hard drive, replaced with this new one. I did a hard drive self test from BIOS diagnostic, it came back with passing score 100% on Quick and Comprehensive test. I setup windows again, all said and done... when installation complete and reboot for the first time... windows error shows: windows fail to start... I tried all options from safe mode to command prompt... it kept flashing blue screen, shutdown, reboot and went back to windows error screen. I build PCs but rarely work on laptops... and this problem drive me nuts. I might get an external hard drive and setup boot from this HD to see I can save this laptop. Anyone had experience with this, please help.

As I posted, HD has no problem!
I took the laptop hardware pretty much apart; visual checked for water, corrosion or damage... put them back together; tried without NIC, a single mem chip, setup Linux , windows 98, Vista, windows 7.v..v... same problem... I reseated every component that can be taken out again. Voila, the problem went away. ![]() I have windows Vista on the new hard drive and Windows 7 on the old HD. Now, I keep this laptop with Windows 7 loaded. This new windows version seem working better than Vista. Thanks to robocop. ![]() And thanks to all. ![]()
