First of all, I would like to thank you every body from this forums for answering a lot of insightful question. I've learned a lot about cars from just reading these few posts.

One question though, I'm planning to buy a new car with a budget of around $5,000-$8,000. But it is hard to decide whether to go for a Toyota or a Honda. Either Civic, Accord, Camry, or Celica. What car should I buy that would maximize the return of my money?

BTW, I don't mind the car style and model. I just want a good engine that will last during my years of college. It might be 10 years, who knows. :)

id really suggest you buy the car that you really like..
styling to me is important when it comes to buying a car you want to keep for the next few years...

personally...i think the camry is ugly...
for the money....id get a honda accord...you can get at least a 96 ex with 8000...
the f22 vtec isnt bad...the handling is definitely more solid compare to the camry...
the camry is a lil too soft imo..

100% with him. I drove a camry before, and i'm very disappoint with the camry. That why I got myself a Honda Accord

well, first let me said that both of these car manufactures engine is really reliable and it will last you for a long time, I agreed with both Playboi and Cis, that you should get and Accord if you compare it to Camry. Why ? well because the accord make better suspension on the Accord than Toyota make in the Camry and that help you with better driving in the worst weather, like rain and snow. and with 8-9K range you could get a 98+ Accord with lower millage.

most likely Camry will have problems involve with transmissions, ( I am not saying that all Camry are like that, but I see most of people have Camry have that kind of problem), and I go with Honda Civic or Accord.

u will spend more money on gasoline w/ camry, especially right now. civic should do.

actually, camry build the tranmission and engine very well. It could last well over the Honda engine and actually Camry doesn't consume that much more gasoline (depend on wether it a V6 or I4) than Accord or Civic.

I think you are a guy:confused:  , So i'd say you go with the Accord or Civic. With 8 grands you can get a nice one. Either find a 95 Accord EX V6 or 96-97 EX. Those look shape, try to find the EX or EX V6 model. Or you can go with 5-speed Civic EX (Insurance and gas milage).

Stay away from the Camry since "Guys don't drive camry". I once owned a 94 Camry LE, it's a nice, decent car but NOT FOR guy, it's for old adult like your mom and dad (assuming they're in their 40's).

Good luck finding.

comon guy if you compare, compare them according to the range of the vehicle ... I absolute don't agree with those of you not agree about the camry ... I would say camry performance is better, once you own both you'll see the comparison between the 2 ... My mom have 2001 camry, my bro have 2001 accord .... compare between the 2, camry is much better when driving ... less gas comsumption, dzo.t nha.y faster, smoother driving(e^m) and handling ... most of the people that I known, they all like camry performance but not the look :D ... younger people rather go for accord :) me too :) ... I would not go for camry either hehe :) .... I rather go for newer celica or 98 supra ... for the style I like the accord better :) .... but 1 thing for sure that toyota is way better when driving up on the hill :)

TEXT: go for Celica GTS :)

here is some of the comparison

so where do u buy a supra. i been searching for that car like for 4 year. and i can't find one that in my area. i live in virginia.

i got to agree with all of u guys on honda. that car is good. my dad have a honda accord 94 vtec and it still running good after 8 years and my mom camery is okay but it have like a lot of problem. camry is like for old ppl, and girl, no guys every drive a camry. u should go with a honda accord. or prelude. those two are good. if u style go for prelude if not go for accord.

thank you for all the inputs. I must agree that Honda looks better. But my neighbor is a home mechanic and he say the engine of camry is much better than accord (Toyota better than Honda I should say). Is he right?

Let me guess, this guy owns only Toyota at his house? :D :D

Noone, and I say noone, should say Toyota is better than Honda or vice versa.
I've seen so many good and and few bad things in both so I can strongly conclude that they both good (each has few problem)
Of course, U will see some individual case of a Camry failing here and there.
Same thing will go with Accord too.

The reasons I recommend Civic for him (a student) are:
1) gas saver
2) nice looking style
3) cheap on insurance
4) reliability

Good choice, my little sis owned a 93 civic, and it has 180k on it with no problem until she totaled it last year.

This is a nice car, nice on gas, reliable and style for young adults (kids) and it is easy to mod too (độ). Good luck.

I would say..CiViC HB.. since he is a young guy.. just starting college
spend $4000-$5000 on the car ..
the other $3000.. for swapping a high performance engine

Other than that...all of these car would do it. If you want the car to last...do the maintenance from day 1 as soon as you own it...

If shopping for a use car, go with newer model and high miledge rather than earlier model with low miledge.

Toyota and Honda are almost the same. I've owned some Hondas and currently own one as well but I think Toyota may beat Honda in some areas such as cost and realiability. Yes, Honda is always a little more expensive than Toyota...Why?

I have both 90 camry V6 and 92 Civic Htback.

The camry had 265K miles and still running good, no major repaired yet other than timming belt and water pump changed. I brought the camry used in 92 used w/52K miles for $8000 and used it for school and worked. Finally traded it in for the Sienna.

As for the civic, brought it used also in 94 w/55K miles, now had 189K and still running great. Just like the Camry no major repaired other than regular maintenanced.

I mostly do the oil changed and tune up at home, so Toyota is easy to do than the Honda when come to oil changed. Good luck on making your decision in seeking your car.

why don't you get the 89 toyota supra, or MR-2. I would go the first generation of MR-2 in 86. Or get nissan sylvia instead, US model name 240 SE, that if you want sport. These cars will fix for you.

Toyota Rules, No matter what aspect you compare whether reliability, flexibility and efficiency--they simplily rule. In Japan, Toyota is number 1 since the company establish and been used among taxi driver, police, military, you named it they all used Toyota. Too bad Toyota doesn't import to the U.S every model they made because of the U.S goverment political crap hinders Toyota to better serve the world. I think The Big Three, Chevy, Ford and GMC spend a fortune in congressman to create laws which will protect domestic markets from forgein (Toyota) invasion. I said this because I've seen a Japanese corolla and U.S corolla version and boy what a difference between the twos. The Japanese version has an elegant touch, chrome grill, tail lights, tinted glass and a nice individual emblem. With such beauty and elegant, no doubt the Japanese version corolla earns the title to serve Royal Family of the Third World. And the U.S version? Just darn plain, practical and Toyota reliability and yet still one of best selling car in the U.S and the World. If the U.S goverment would allow Toyota to import its model without altering or reducing the beauty, no doubt The Big Three going to Bankcrupt. And that's why I think The Big Three asks the goverment for help.
Why settle with a car company (Honda) just catching up with rear wheel drive? Toyota is a people company. They invest in the people. This reflects their motto: For the People. For the Society. For the Earth.

P.S. If you type in "Used cars in Japan" in google search and hopefully you'll find a used car dealers in Japan and you can compare JDM (Japanese domestic models) and import model.

My 2 cent opinion,
:weed:
