Two main things U need in a car alarm:
1) kill switch - it will disable the starter when alarm triggers ... car cannot start
2) shock sensor - someone breaks your windows and the alarm will go off.
Extra features:
1) Power locks/unlocks (almost a "must have")
2) Auto-start (good for people in a cold area)
3) Hood lock - to prevent people from popping up your hood to disable the siren
4) Power window up/down (for guys to show up with girls)
And few more things but I better stop here :D
About the brand, there are many brands in the market now. Personally, I still like the Clifford :)
interesting, thank both.
know of any affordable place for installation. are there info in thang mo magazine

u know if a person really want to steal your car they will not stop at nothing. a car alarm is nothing to them, they can just kill the car alarm if they know wut to do. car alarm is for protecting against stupid thief ppl that don't know how to steal a car. if it is an experience car thief u will lose your car no matter wut kind of alarm u have. that just a comment i want to make. get like the best one.

Viper , Clifford , alpine .
Alpine hồi xưa thì tốt nhưng bi giờ hông biet sao .
Còn hook up huh? không khó đâu, chỉ cần cái manual (comes with the alarm ) thì gắn được à .

This is totally true :)
Car alarm is just prevents from small-time car thiefs or someone wants to break in your car to steal your radio and stuffs.
For a pro (like me ... hehehe j/k), it does not matter what kinda alarm U have or how many alarms U have, it does not take long to steal your car.
Let me tell you a true story:
A friend of mine who had a '92 300zx twin turbo with lots of fancy stuffs add-on. He put in 3 diff alarm system (Alpine, Clifford, and Viper). Even have some backup battery for alarm .. one day he parked his car in front of his house in drive way. He normally parks it in garage but this one night he got lazy and forgot to move it in garage. The next morning he waked up to go to work and his car was gone. Few days later, the police found it but the car was pretty much stripped. He got full cover insurance but they did not agree to pay for those fancy stuffs he got.

hahah i know. that happen to my friend too.
here is the story: it is true
my friend have this brand new rsx type-s for at least 2 month. he brought it like 28,000 plus option. then he add in like all of the fancy stuff. like carbon fiber hood, everwood dvd player, i think that the company i forgot. new rim, and he repaint his car to a different car, a new muffler, a new wing, lower his car, a new internal light car, and 3 kind of alarm system that hard to break in. his total grand of money is nearly like $60,000. he use the best kind of stuff. then when one day he skip skool to go get his car stereo check out and to add more stuff in. he park in front of cvs to go in and buy something. then when he came out his car was gone. it took the police like a week to find his car. and the car was total. all of the fancy stuff got taken, and his car got into an accident, the front of his hood get smash in half. his insurance cover everything and some of his fancy stuff. the cop say that when someone was driving his car did not know how to use a shift stick. that how he got into an accident.
no matter wut kind of alarm u got, even if it is best of alarm. when a pro thief want to steal your car, they will steal your car no matter wut. they know how to disable the alarm. then they take your car. the alarm is only like for noob thief only. don't waste your money on fancy alarm.
so are there alternatives? what about those sticks that lock the wheels. we just got a honda and heard it's popular among thiefs.
i was surprise when the salesman told us most honda thiefs want the parts, not the car itself. i don't understand since a car should sell for more. damn, that mean there is no chance of getting the car back (whole).

nobody would buy a whole car...
its suicide..
but lets get back on topic..
dont b discouraged by some of the comments above..
although they are true somewhat...but that wont necessarily apply to you..
most thieves would deter away from cars with an alarm system installed..
imo...get viper..
and please get an authorize dealer to install it for you..
its worth paying the installers to install your alarm..
so if something happens...you would have someone to blame it on..

well, there is something better than alarm :)
It is a GPS tracking system. But it's kinda expensive (there is monthly fee) and only Ferrari/Lamborginini can afford it :cigar:

Lo-jack has been out for long time now :)
I'm talking about an actual GPS system that can track where your car is instantly.
There is a company which starts it in Texas recently but only rich people can afford it :)
